The Challenge

To mark the two-year anniversary of Alien: Covenant and its open-ended conclusion, 20th Century Fox wanted to drop one more bread crumb. The short had to deliver the franchise’s signature tension and horror while expanding its mythology in a way that was authentic to longtime fans but accessible to new audiences.

Our Approach

What could we add to this story? How about tracing the origin of the Xenomorphs themselves. We crafted a tightly focused story set inside David’s lab, leaning into franchise lore to evoke the claustrophobic fear that defines the Alien universe. Controlled studio production allowed us to shape every detail of light, sound, and atmosphere, while practical effects and selective VFX extended the world without losing its grit.

The Result

The film premiered as exclusive content on Fox’s digital platforms, where it lived as a key part of the Alien Anthology series of shorts. It drew fans deeper into the mythology, sparked conversation across online communities, and reinforced Alien’s reputation for blending cinematic craft with compelling storytelling. The result was a short film that felt as visually and tonally precise as a feature, while standing on its own as an engaging digital experience. By expanding the narrative, the film became both a marketing tool and a piece of franchise lore in its own right.
